Early recognition of a problem is the best defense against decreasing vision. Gradual changes can decrease you comfort, safety and put your eye health at risk. Many medical conditions are diagnosed during regular eye examinations. Learning problems are often related to visual inefficiency. You may be unaware of many eye problems until they are quite advanced.
Regular, comprehensive eye examinations are essential for early recognition. In addition to ensuring proper eyesight, regular eye examinations allow your eye doctor to detect and treat diseases at the earliest possible opportunity. Several eye diseases, such as glaucoma, show no symptoms in their early stages. Early detection improves the likelihood for successful treatment.
For your regular eye examination, testing will include evaluation of visual acuity, spectacle prescription, external and internal eye health and pressures. We will also evaluate the accuracy of focus, tracking and two-eyed co-ordination. We will discuss your visual needs and demands and help you to understand you risks and options.
Eye drops may be used during the examination to dilate your pupils for better viewing of the inside of the eye. Most patients will feel comfortable driving with their pupils dilated. If you are unsure or uneasy about driving when your pupils are dilated, please be safe and bring another driver with you to your examination.
